The No. 21 ranked Emory University women's soccer team faltered at home Saturday afternoon, falling to visiting Case Western Reserve University 1-0 in University Athletic Association competition.
The Spartans upended the Eagles with a goal at the 58th minute mark to improve to 8-7-1 (2-4 UAA) while the loss dropped Emory to 9-3-5 on the season and 1-3-2 in conference play.
The decisive tally came from Izzy Probst when she beat an EU defender before ripping a shot to the left corner. Senior Rachel Carr initially was able to get a glove on the shot but the momentum from the attempt carried into the back of the net.
Trailing 1-0, the Eagles were highly aggressive in the second half trying to find the equalizer as the team racked up 17 shot attempts, including four on frame, to go along with nine corner kick opportunities but were unable to find the game-tying score.
Juniors Emory Bozzuti and Alexandra Burtis-Wyant combined for 13 of the team's 23 chances on the afternoon, including nine between them in the second half.
Emory will close out the regular season next Saturday against visiting Rochester. Prior to the 1:30 PM kickoff, the Eagles will recognize their nine-member graduating class with a special on-field ceremony.
