#4 Women's Soccer Tops Berry, 2-1, in Mid-Week Matchup

The No. 4 ranked Emory University women's soccer team prevailed in non-conference action Wednesday night as the Eagles defeated in-state foe Berry College, 2-1, in front of the home crowd at the Woodruff PE Center in Atlanta.

Despite the narrow margin of victory, the Eagles thoroughly controlled possession with a 28-2 margin in shots and had a 16-2 edge in shots on goal and a 10-0 advantage in corner kicks. Junior Kaitlyn Nimmer tallied a team-high six shots while sophomore Mikayla Camp posted a team-leading three shots on goal.

Emory wasted no time reaching the scoring column on Wednesday as Camp found the back of the net for the second time in as many games with the go-ahead goal in the sixth minute of play. Nimmer and classmate Madison Teng set the play up flawlessly with precision execution between three Berry defenders before Teng fired a pass into the box where Camp was there to poke it home.

Later in the first half, Nimmer added to the Emory lead with her first goal of the season when she scored in the 31st minute. Junior Kaitlin Ogilvie sent a far pass to Nimmer at the top 18 which allowed her to then beat the Vikings' keeper in a one-on-one situation from the penalty spot.

Prior to halftime, Berry cut into the Emory lead with a goal in the 43rd minute. BC's Ide Strickland stepped to the penalty circle following a hard takedown inside the box. Strickland's initial opportunity was denied by senior Sophia Garcia but the rebound fell to the foot of Strickland where she cashed in with the second opportunity.

Leading 2-1 as the game moved into the second half, the Eagles stayed aggressive and claimed all 13 scoring chances across the final 45 minutes and put seven attempts on frame but could not find one more to fall.

After starting 2-0 at home, the Eagles take to the road for the first time in 2025 as Emory is set to travel to Minnesota this weekend to oppose the College of Saint Benedict and St. Catherine on Sunday, September 7 and Monday, September 8.
