# 8 Volleyball Sweeps Covenant in Saturday Showdown

The Emory University volleyball team earned its eighth victory of the season on Saturday afternoon sweeping the Covenant College Scots in Atlanta, Georgia.

The No. 8 ranked Eagles improve to 8-2 on the season and will compete in the first UAA Round Robin of the season beginning Saturday, September 27 at home in Atlanta.

Emory was led by a number of different athletes on Saturday afternoon with senior Eliane Silberman leading the offense with eight kills. Fellow senior Kate LaRocco totaled five service aces followed by four from freshman Carolina Ufret.

The match got off to a hot start with the Eagles going on an 8-1 run highlighted by kills from senior Maggie Regan and Silberman. The Scots looked to make a comeback and came within a five-point deficit but Emory continued pushing forward. After Covenant scored their 13th point of the set, the Eagles went on a 7-2 run with kills from LaRocco and classmate Kaya Monrose to clinch set one, 25-15.

After the Eagles got a 3-0 start in set two, an injury delayed the game for 30 minutes. Emory was able to jump right back in following the delay and jump to an 11-4 lead over the Scots. Covenant continued to fight to a 9-14 deficit but service aces from LaRocco and kills from Monrose helped push the Eagles to a 22-11 lead. The Scots scored two more points in the set but Emory took set two with a 25-13 score.

Covenant looked for a battle in the third set taking 3-1 lead but the Eagles fought back to later tie the set at four apiece. Ufret followed with two service aces and attack errors from the Scots helped Emory to a 10-6 lead. Covenant continued pushing falling to a 12-16 deficit but the effort wasn't enough to keep up with the Eagles. Emory finished with a 9-2 run including three straight service aces from LaRocco to clinch the set and the match with a set three score of 25-14.

The Eagles will face Carnegie Mellon and Brandeis on the opening day of the UAA Round Robin with game one beginning at 11:00 AM.
