The No. 5 ranked Emory University women's soccer team won its sixth consecutive game Sunday afternoon, taking down No. 15 Washington & Lee University, 1-0, at WakeMed Park in Cary, North Carolina.
Sophomore Emory Bozzuti notched her first goal of the season with the decisive tally in the 69th minute to lift the Eagles to a 6-0 record – the team's best start to a season since 2007 when that Emory squad open the year with eight straight wins.
Sunday afternoon saw limited action across the opening 45 minutes with both sides recording three shots each. However, in the second half, the Eagles increased their intensity which in turn led to a 15-6 (7-2 SOG) advantage in shot attempts.
The larger volume of offensive opportunities led to Emory's breakthrough at the 68:47 mark when junior Madison Teng 's free kick found the head of Bozzuti who directed it into the right-side netting.
Senior Sophia Garcia registered three stops including two saves in the second half to preserve her third clean sheet of the season. As a unit, the Eagles' backline has produced four consecutive shutouts and has not allowed a goal since late in the first half in its win over Berry on September 3rd - a streak spanning 408 minutes.
The Eagles will look to close out its first of two straight weekend trips to North Carolina on Monday afternoon when Emory returns to WakeMed Park to face William Peace at 1:30 PM.
