#5 Women's Soccer Continues Win Streak; Routs Covenant, 7-0, at Home

The No. 5 ranked Emory University women's soccer team returned home Thursday night for a thunderous 7-0 victory over Covenant College at the WoodPEC in Atlanta. Three different Eagles netted a brace in the win while sophomore Laina Denys set a career-high with three assists as the Eagles improved to 5-0 on the season.

Sophomore Mikayla Camp set the tone for the evening early on as she scored the opening two goals within the first 25 minutes of the first half. In the 12th minute, Camp recorded the first of her two tallies with a curling shot to the far post following the long set-up pass from senior Michelle Davidson. Thirteen minutes later, Denys charged through three Scot defenders before a crossing shot found the boot of Camp who one-timed it to the right corner. Camp has now registered a brace in two of the last three games and currently leads the team with six goals.

Following Camp's two goals, the conclusion of the first half saw three different Eagles find the scoring column as Emory ended its dominant opening period with a 5-0 lead.

Freshman Sophia Cho made it a 3-0 game in the 35th minute when she settled a Denys corner kick inside the six and knocked it in from close range. Moments later, senior Nikki Grosso lifted a shot from the right wing that found the far side of the goal and over the outstretched Covenant keeper's reach.

Junior Zia Tomlin finished the first half scoring with a beautiful one-on-one scoring chance with three minutes remaining following the pinpoint pass through the defense by Grosso.

Seconds following the return from the halftime break, Tomlin raced from midfield through the Covenant backline before a perfect finishing touch to the left post made it 6-0 in favor of the Eagles.

Grosso joined the brace party with Emory's final goal of the night with 26:43 remaining in the game. Sophomore Alexandra Burtis-Wyant sent a centering pass to the middle of the 18 where it deflected off the feet of juniors Madison Teng and Kaitlyn Nimmer before falling to Grosso where she fired it home.

The Eagles were in complete control on the night, finishing with a 36-2 margin in total shots and had a 23-1 lead in shots on goal.

Next up for Emory will be a neutral top-15 showdown with No. 15 Washington & Lee on Sunday in Cary, North Carolina. Kickoff from WakeMed Park is set for 1:30 PM.
