Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | Phil Engel - Director of Communications & Sports Information

Men's Soccer Stuns #4 Washington & Lee, 1-0, with Goal in Final Minutes

The Emory University men's soccer team returned to action for the first time in 2025, showcasing a flair of the dramatics as a late-minute goal led the Eagles to a 1-0 win over No. 4 ranked Washington & Lee University Friday night in Atlanta.

With the score deadlocked at 0-0 through 86 minutes of action, Emory finally broke the scoreless bout with a fantastic corner kick opportunity. Senior captain Josh Grand sent a curling ball into the middle of the box where junior Logan Steren was there to head in the game-winner. The goal marked Steren's first career goal in an Emory kit.

The Eagles controlled possession for a majority of the contest, ending the game with a final tally of 19-10 in total shots including a 7-3 margin in shots on goal. Junior Julian Hee topped the Eagles with four shots in the game and matched Steren with a team-leading two SOGs.

After posting four clean sheets a season ago, the Eagles notched their first one of the season. Junior transfer Geoffrey Halpern notched three saves to earn his first career win between the posts.

The Sonny Carter Invitational continues on Saturday with W&L facing Oglethorpe (0-1) at 4:30 PM before Emory battles Covenant (1-0) in the night cap with kick off slated for 7:00 PM.
