Women’s Track and Field Sweeps South Region End of Season Honors

The Emory University track and field program saw four more honors added to the wall on Thursday afternoon with the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announcing their 2025 Outdoor Track & Field Regional Awards.

Graduate students Eva Carchidi and Nikki Boon ended their seasons with more honors with Carchidi becoming the third consecutive Eagle to earn South Region Track Athlete of the Year honors while Boon earns her second straight South Region Field Athlete of the Year. Head coach Linh Nguyen and associate coach Derek Nelson round out the selections with South/Southeast Head Coach and Assistant Coach of the Year honors.

Carchidi entered Emory and made history becoming the first women in program history to win a national title in the 400m dash at the NCAA Championships and is the second Eagle to do so. While earning the title, she ran a program record mark of 53.94 to win in dramatic fashion. Carchidi has the four fastest times on the team this season in the 400m dash and the 200m dash while becoming a UAA Champion in the 200m and 400m dash.

Boon continued to break records during her final season with the Eagles taking home another national title, her latest coming in the heptathlon at the 2025 NCAA Outdoor Championships. With her second national title, she becomes the third individual in Emory history to win multiple titles in their career while also being the first person in Emory history to win the heptathlon. She won the event with a mark of 5435 after breaking the Division III record with 5638 points earlier this season at the Emory Thrills in the Hills meet.

Under Nguyen and Nelson's leadership this season, the Emory women's track and field program saw rankings in the top-15 all season and a second place finish at the UAA Outdoor Championships earlier in April, the best team finish since 2016. The Eagles brought home 13 All-UAA finishes while Carchidi and Boon both set program records at the event. Along with the national champions, the Emory women secured 18 All-Region honors and finished 11th at the NCAA Championships.
