Softball Sees Postseason Run End at Super Regionals

The Emory University softball program saw their monumental postseason run come to an end on Friday afternoon falling to the University of Redlands Bulldogs 13-2 in Redlands, California.

The Eagles finished their season with a 33-14 record after seeing their first postseason selection and first trip to the Super Regionals since the 2019 season. The Eagles finished third in the UAA and was the only team in the conference to make it to the Super Regionals.

As the visitors in game two of the series, Redlands was able to get a runner on in the top of the first inning but sophomore Lillian Ware prevented another stolen base throwing out the runner at second to end the inning harmless. Fellow sophomore Grace Cooper opened the hits for Emory in the bottom of the inning with a double but was stranded on the base paths.

The Bulldogs were able to get their first run of the game in the top of the second on a solo shot followed by two more runs in the top of the third on a walk and a double for a 3-0 lead over the Eagles.

Emory looked to make a comeback in the bottom of the third inning with Cooper driving a two-out solo home run down the left field line for the Eagles' first run of the day. During the next at-bat, junior Ella Hoyle followed with a home run to left cutting Redland's lead to 3-2.

In the top of the fourth, the Bulldogs extended their lead on a two-RBI triple and a wild pitch taking a 6-2 advantage. In the bottom half of the inning, Ware opened with a single followed by a walk and a single from teammates Addison Kwong and Ashley Chu but the Eagles were unable to make a move and the runners were stranded.

Over the next two innings, Redlands was able to add on seven more runs taking advantage of five hits off of Emory's pitchers to take a 13-2 lead into the bottom of the sixth inning. The Eagles were unable to answer in the inning and saw their season come to a close.
