Fineman Breaks Shot Put Record as Eagles Send Five Athletes to MIT Final Qualifier

The Emory University track and field program sent five athletes to the MIT Final Qualifier on Thursday afternoon in Cambridge, Massachusetts with senior Sarah Fineman breaking the shot put record in her second straight meet.
 
After throwing a 13.31m mark at the Life U Last Chance meet last week, Fineman threw a program record breaking distance of 13.79m for a fifth place finish in the event. Teammate Jeanette Hydukovich also competed at the meet taking home a sixth place finish in the discus with a distance of 43.20m.
 
Three men's runners competed in the 800m to finish the day with graduate student Spencer Watry leading the pack with a sixth place, 1:50.50 run. Teammate Marcus Cheema followed with a 1:52.46 for a 15th place finish while freshman Ryan McGonigle took 16th with a time of 1:53.01.
 
The Eagles will find out the NCAA qualifiers on Friday, May 16 with the first day of competition slated to begin Thursday, May 22.
