The Emory University softball program closed the regular season on Saturday afternoon falling to the No. 10 ranked WashU Bears in St. Louis, Missouri.
Â
The Eagles finish the regular season with a 29-11 overall record and an 11-7 conference record, the most conference wins in a season since 2019 (16 wins), and finished third in the UAA.
Â
After a quick top of the first inning from the Eagles, the Bears earned their first hit of the game in the bottom half of the inning but were unable to capitalize on the momentum and pitcher
Mackenzie Duford got out of the inning.
Â
Sophomore
Ellie Zerr was able to reach base to start the top of the second inning followed by a single from freshman
Megan Sutton but WashU's pitcher was also able to get out of the inning unharmed forcing the game into the third inning scoreless.
Â
Emory was once again able to put pressure on the Bears in the top of the fifth inning with sophomore
Lillian Ware leading off the inning with a single to left field followed by a walk to Sutton. Back-to-back fielder's choices kept two runners on base but an infield single from junior
Ashley Chu loaded the bases with two outs. WashU's defense was able to get out of the inning keeping the score 0-0.
Â
In the bottom of the fifth, the Bears also took advantage of a leadoff single and a walk to put runners on first and second before an RBI single scored WashU's only run of the game. Emory was unable to add any more base runners in the matchup falling 1-0.
Â
The Eagles will find out their postseason fate on Monday, May 12 with the selection show slated to begin at 11:00 AM.
