Women’s Track & Field Opens UAA Championships with Program Record, Two All-UAA Finishes

The Emory University track and field program opened competition at the UAA Championships on Saturday afternoon in New York, New York at Icahn Stadium.
 
The Eagles currently sit in fourth place with 31 points while WashU leads the charge with 73 points following the first day of competition. On Saturday, the Eagles saw a broken program record on the track and two All-UAA finishes in the shot put and 4x800m relay.
 
Senior Sarah Fineman got things going for Emory in the scoring taking home a third place, All-UAA finish in the shot put with a distance of 13.05m. Teammates Nikki Boon (4th, 12.66m) and Jeanette Hydukovich (6th, 12.13m) also received points for their top-10 finishes in the event.
 
Earlier in the day, freshman Abigail Roberts finished fifth in the hammer throw finals with a mark of 45.89m while fellow rookie Erin Makhanian also notched points for the Eagles taking eighth in the pole vault with a height of 3.32m.
 
On the track, Emory was able to get points from the 3000m Steeplechase and the 4x800m relay. Teammates Cameron Gupta (5th, 11:15.88) and Davis Johnson (7th, 11:21.12) took top-eight finishes in the steeplechase while the 4x800m relay group of Elise Picard, Payton Fleming, Hannah Riley and Sophia Powell finished third in the event with a time of 9:14.96.
 
The Eagles had a qualifier for each event they competed in on the track with graduate student Eva Carchidi leading the pack with a first place finish in the 200m dash prelims. Her time of 23.88 broke the program record while teammates Jada Kenner, Audrey Johnson and Kaya Binetti also turned in qualifying times.
 
The hurdles duo of Nikki Boon and Melayna Pettigrew started the day with qualifying times in the 100m hurdles before Pettigrew and freshman Izzie Thompson qualified for the finals in the 400m hurdles.
 
In the sprints, Kenner, Johnson, Binetti and teammate Maura Dianno qualified for the 100m dash finals while Kenner took the top spot in the prelims with a time of 11.83.
 
Carchidi later competed in the 400m dash prelims qualifying with her second place finish while teammates Dashiel Tao Harris and Hannah Riley also qualifies taking sixth and eighth respectively. Finishing the prelims on Saturday were teammates Luna McCauley, Madison Tiaffay and Payton Sullivan who all qualified for the 800m run finals.
 
The Eagles will finish up competition on Sunday, April 27 with the first events slated to begin at 8:30 AM.
