Women’s Golf Finishes First after Historic Third Round of Jekyll Island Women’s Invitational

The Emory University women's golf program took home another first place finish this season at the Jekyll Island Women's Invitational on Sunday afternoon. The tournament was being played at the 72 par, 5,601 yard Kind and Prince Golf Course in St. Simon Island, Georgia.
 
The Eagles finished the tournament with a team score of 882 (+18) after shooting their best round on Sunday with a 287 (-1). The Carnegie Mellon Tartans followed one stroke behind with an 883 (+19) while Wellesley took home third with a score of 896 (+32).
 
On Sunday, Emory was led by senior Ellen Dong who came within one stroke of the program record in the final round. She finished the day with a 68 (-4) and finished the day in sixth place on the individual leaderboard with a score of 219. She recorded seven birdies on the day including four on the front nine, and eight pars.
 
The top Eagle of the tournament was senior Sharon Mun who finished in a tie for second with a total score of 217 (+1). After shooting one over on the front nine with three birdies, she finished the day with two birdies and six pars on the back nine to finish with a 73 (+1) on the day.
 
Following behind Mun and Dong was freshman Zimo Li who continues her dominating rookie season. She entered the day shooting five over and had one of the best opening rounds shooting one under with a birdie on the front nine. Li finished the final nine holes shooting one over to go even on the day and finish with a score of 221 (+5) for an eighth place finish on the leaderboards.
 
Also shooting her best round of the tournament was freshman Covi Yan who moved into a tie for 20th after shooting a 74 (+2) in the third round. She struggled through the first nine holes with a 38 (+2) before going even on the back nine with two birdies and six pars. Yan finished the tournament with a score of 228 (+12) with her best performance on Sunday.
 
Rounding out the tournament for the Eagles and finishing in a tie for 20th was sophomore Carys Code. She finished with the most pars on the team in the third round recording 13 on Sunday for her best round score of 75 (+3). Code was able to post a birdie on hole one and nine to finish the invitational with a 228 (+12).
 
The Eagles will hit the road next week to compete in the Max and Susan Stith Invitational in Glen Allen, Virginia with the two-day tournament slated to begin on Monday, March 31.
