The Emory University women's track and field program opened competition at the UAA Championships on Saturday afternoon in Chicago, Illinois at the Henry Crown Fieldhouse.
The Eagles currently sit in fourth place after the first day of events with a score of 26 points
while host Chicago holds down the top spot with 56 points. Emory saw two All-UAA finishes and another program record broken by graduate student
Eva Carchidi.
Fellow graduate student
Nikki Boon picked up the first individual title of the meet with a first place finish in the long jump with a distance of 5.70m. Senior
Maura Dianno and sophomore
Elsa Bildtsen also competed in the event finishing 10
th and 11
th respectively. Also competing in field events were jumpers
Erin Makhanian and
Hannah Riley who finished fourth and ninth in the pole vault while freshman
Abigail Roberts took home a 13
th place finish in the weight throw.
Also earning an All-UAA finish was senior
Liesl Scherrer who finished second in the 3000m run with a time of 17:09.42. Freshman
Davis Johnson also competed in the event finishing 12
th (18:32.24).
Senior
Kaya Binetti got things started with a qualifying run in the 60m prelims alongside Carchidi and senior
Audrey Johnson. Boon and freshman
Melayna Pettigrew followed with third and fifth place finishes in the 60m Hurdles prelims to qualify for the finals.
In the 200m prelims, Carchidi took home first with a time of 24.73 to break the program record. Binetti and Johnson also had qualifying finishes in the event. The 400m prelims were next with senior
Dashiel Tao Harris qualifying for the finals with a time of 59.25. Teammates
Madison Tiaffay and
Rowan Miller ended the prelims with qualifying third and sixth place finishes in the 800m prelims.

Elizabeth Csikai rounded out competition on Saturday finishing sixth with a time of 12:32.17.
The Eagles will finish competition tomorrow, March 2 at the Henry Crown Fieldhouse.
