Women’s Basketball Falls in Season Finale against Rochester, 61-56

The Emory University women's basketball program fell in their season finale, 61-56, to the Rochester Yellowjackets on Saturday afternoon in Rochester, New York.
 
The Eagles finish the season with a 15-10 record while going 7-7 in conference play this year. Against the Jackets, Emory was led by sophomore Alexandra Loucopoulos who notched 22 points while shooting 4-7 from beyond the arc and 8-16 from the field. Senior Erin Martin had an impressive day around the court totaling six rebounds, four assists and three steals.
 
Led by Loucopoulos and junior Katherine Martini, the Eagles took an early 8-3 lead in the first four minutes of the first quarter. Rochester followed with a 10-4 run in the next three minutes to take a 13-12 advantage over Emory but the Eagles didn't give up in the final two minutes to reclaim the lead after the first quarter.
 
Rochester opened the second quarter with a slight 7-5 run cutting Emory's lead down to one point but points from junior Lily Kennedy and back to back threes from senior Daniella Aronsky gave the Eagles a nine-point lead with 4:30 remaining in the half. Emory was held scoreless for the final four minutes of the half with the Jackets cutting the Eagles' lead to three points.
 
In the first four minutes of the third quarter, Rochester fought their way back to a one-point deficit before a jumper from senior Abby Gress reclaimed the lead for the Jackets. The Eagles went on a 6-2 run before a three pointer in the final few seconds of the quarter from Rochester tied the game at 42 apiece.
 
The fourth quarter started with two more ties before back to back threes from Loucopoulos reclaimed the 52-51 lead for Emory with 6:18 left on the clock. The Eagles were then held scoreless until the 2:49 mark with Martini landing a layup bringing the score to a 56-54 Rochester advantage. The Jackets finished the game on a 5-2 run to clinch their sixth conference win of the season.
