#12 Men’s Basketball Earns 20th Win to Close Out Regular Season; Takes Down Rochester, 103-70

The No. 12 ranked Emory men's basketball team (20-5, 10-4 UAA) closed out its regular season on Saturday afternoon, taking on the Rochester Yellowjackets at the Palestra in Rochester, New York. Behind a 62-point second half, the Eagles drubbed the Yellowjackets, 103-70, to earn their 20th win of the season. This is the 10th time that the Eagles have eclipsed the 20-win threshold and the ninth instance under Head Coach Jason Zimmerman. The last time Emory won 20 games in a single season was during the 2021-22 season.

The Emory offense was paced by junior guard Jair Knight, scoring 29 points to go along with eight boards and four assists. This is the sixth time this season that Knight has scored 25 points or more in a single game, the most of any player on the roster. Senior Logan Shanahan was a force on both ends for the Eagles, scoring 22 points to go along with seven rebounds and four blocks. Also reaching double-digits in the scoring column was sophomore AJ Harris, scoring 13 points on six-of-11 shooting from the field.

Emory came out of the gate firing, opening on an 11-4 run in the opening three minutes. Knight and Shanahan accounted for nine of the points on the run. Yet, over the next three minutes, the Eagles went on to shoot 0-for-six from the field, including missing four shots from beyond the arc. The Yellowjackets took advantage from the Eagles' offensive struggles and scored 10 straight points to take a 14-11 lead with 13 minutes remaining in the half.

The Eagles offense woke back up over the next few minutes, going on a 9-2 run over the next four-and-a-half minutes. Over that run, Rochester shot one-for-nine, seeing Emory retake the lead at 20-16.

The offenses went shot-for-shot down for the next few minutes before Emory opened up a sizable lead in the final three minutes of the half. Emory shot six-for-seven to score 13 points over the final three minutes, seeing them take a 41-31 lead into the break.

Despite the double-digit lead, Emory shot just one-of-11 from beyond the arc in the first half. That trend did not persist into the second half, though, with Knight knocking down a triple just a couple of minutes into the second frame.

The Eagles continued to trade blows with the Yellowjackets, with the Eagles leading, 57-48, at the 13-minute mark. It was a high-flying, two-handed dunk from Knight that sparked Emory's offense into overdrive. Over the next 11 minutes, the Eagles closed the game on a 46-22 run, shooting 17-of-22 from the field, including six-of-nine from deep. 11 different Eagles scored during the late surge, with Knight leading the way with 10 and junior John Coppolino IV close behind with nine. Coppolino's final bucket saw the Eagles eclipse the 100-point threshold with just a minute remaining as Emory coasted to a 103-70 win.

Emory shot 64.7% from the field in the second half, including seven-of-10 from beyond the arc. The Eagles also dominated the battle in the paint, outscoring Rochester 58-22 down low.

With the victory, the Eagles closed out their regular season with a 20-5 record overall and 10-4 in conference-play. Emory now shifts its attention to the postseason, with the first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament slated for this upcoming weekend.

The Eagles will learn their postseason fate on Monday, March 3rd with the NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Selection Show set to air at 12:00 PM. The show will be available on NCAA.com.
