For the second time in two seasons and third time in program history, the Emory University women's soccer team will be one of the four teams remaining as the Eagles advanced to their second consecutive Final Four with a 1-0 win over Pomona-Pitzer Sunday afternoon at Alston Watt Field on the campus of Washington & Lee University in Lexington, Virginia.
Joining the Eagles in the Final Four will be University Athletic Association foes University of Chicago and Washington University in St. Louis as well as the Eagles' next opponent, Tufts University. The national semifinals will be held December 4th at Kerr Stadium in Salem, Virginia with Emory and the Jumbos set to kickoff at 6:30 PM.
Following the win over the Sagehens, the Eagles reached the 20-win mark with an overall record of 20-1-1 and established a program record with their 17th shutout. This year's Emory team joins the 2012 and 2024 teams as national semifinalists and will be looking for the first national championship in team history.
Sophomore
Mikayla Camp continued her stellar weekend in Virginia as she notched her third goal during sectionals and accounted for the lone Eagles' tally in the win. The score came in the 17th minute when she controlled a long feed by junior
Jessica Nastasi inside the box and put it into the back of the net.
The goal was all the Emory defense needed as the backline held Pomona-Pitzer to four shots on goal out of 14 total attempts including only one shot on target in the second half. Senior
Sophia Garcia made three of her four total saves in the first half to record the shutout.
Camp and classmate
Emory Bozzuti combined for 11 out of the team's 19 shots with Camp leading the team four shots on goal.
