#2 Women’s Soccer Plays to Scoreless Stalemate at #16 Carnegie Mellon

The No. 2 ranked Emory University women's soccer team was locked inside a scoreless battle with No. 16 ranked Carnegie Mellon University Sunday afternoon as University Athletic Association play got underway for both teams in Pittsburgh.

Both defenses were on full display in the conference opener as the two sides combined for eight shots across the 90 minutes as well as only six shots on frame between the two nationally ranked programs.

The first half saw neither side gain much momentum as the Eagles held the Tartans without a single scoring opportunity while freshman Sophia Cho and sophomore Jaymie Frith logged the lone chances for Emory in the half.

The second half saw the field open up a bit more, leading three total chances for both benches as well as two shots on goal for both offenses. It was not until the closing moments of the game where both teams had arguably their best scoring threats of the afternoon.

In the 85th minute, sophomore Emory Bozzuti cut through the Tartan defense on the left side and was able to fire a shot to the far post but was stopped by the CMU keeper.

Moments later with 2:20 left to go, the Tartans' Saveria Ulizzi ripped a shot but senior Sophia Garcia was there with the reaction save to prevent a late Tartan score.

For the game, five different Eagles notched a shot attempt while Garcia made two saves on both chances she faced.

Emory (10-0-1) will continue UAA play next weekend on the road as the Eagles will travel to Brandeis on Saturday, October 11 for a 1:30 PM kickoff.
