#2 Women's Soccer Trounces #8 Brandeis, 3-0, for First UAA Win

The No. 2 ranked Emory University women's soccer team earned a statement win Saturday afternoon, going on the road and taking down No. 8 Brandeis University, 3-0, in Waltham, Massachusetts.

The Eagles had three different goals scorers on the afternoon to lead the team to its first conference win of the season, improving to 1-0-1 through the first two UAA weekends and now stands at 11-0-1 on the season. With the defeat, the Judges slip to 0-2 in UAA play and 7-2-3 on the season.

The shutout was Emory's fourth in a row and ninth of the season. The Eagles outshot the Judges 18-11 on the day and held a 9-5 advantage in shots on goal.

The Eagles' first tally of the afternoon came in the 37th minute when a free kick from junior Madison Teng was placed perfectly inside the box, finding the head of freshman Sophia Cho for the score. The goal was Cho's third of the season with the assist marking Teng's fifth of the year.

The score remained 1-0 until the early in the second half when the Eagles struck for a second time in the 54th minute. The play was initially set up on the defensive end when senior Sophia Garcia came through with a clutch one-handed leaping save on a penalty kick. On the ensuing goal kick, the Eagles quickly flipped field position leading to multiple attempts on the other end. Sophomore Emory Bozzuti 's first shot attempt was saved but the follow up on the rebound was swiftly put to the back of the net by classmate Jaymie Frith. The goal was Frith's second of the season.

Junior Zia Tomlin added an insurance goal in the 74th minute when she raced though the Brandeis defense from just past midfield and slotting a shot under the Judges' keeper for her fourth of the campaign.

The Eagles are set to return home next weekend for their first conference contest in Atlanta, hosting No. 25 ranked New York University at 1:30 PM on Saturday, October 18th.
