The No. 1 Emory women's soccer team dominated No. 25 NYU Saturday afternoon at home, shutting them out 4-0. This is the third win against a ranked opponent this season for the Eagles.
Three different Eagles found the back of the net to earn their second conference win of the season, improving to 2-0-1 in conference play and 12-0-1 on the season. With the loss, the Violets remain winless in conference play and slip to 8-3-3 overall.
This win was Emory's tenth shutout win of the season and the team's fifth in a row, making this the 19
th season in Emory history where the team has earned ten or more shutout wins. The Eagles outshot the Violets 24-6 overall and 15-4 in shots on goal.
The Eagles got on the board early thanks to an unassisted goal from
Sophia Asiain in the eighth minute, earning the freshman's first goal in the Emory uniform. It didn't take her long to find the net again, scoring her second goal of the match in the 13
th minute.
The score remained 2-0 for most of the first half until
Katie Hungness took a shot in the 39
th only for NYU to get the save, but junior
Zia Tomlin responded and found the back of the net in the 39
th minute, earning her third goal of the season and her seventh career goal.
The Eagles didn't find the net again until late in the second period, despite their ten total shot attempts on the half. It wasn't until the 87

Kaitlyn Nimmer for an insurance goal to give Emory their fourth goal of the match, earning the Virginia junior her eighth goal of the season.
The Eagles are staying home and will be back on Tuesday night for a top-five matchup, hosting No. 5 University of Chicago at 7:30 p.m. on October 21.
