The No. 1 ranked Emory University women's soccer team capped off a perfect non-conference slate Tuesday evening as the Eagles defeated visiting Maryville College, 5-0, in the non-conference finale at the Woodruff PE Center in Atlanta.
Sophomore Emory Bozzuti notched her second career brace as she was one of four goal scorers to help lead the top-ranked Eagles to their 13th win of the season, improving to 13-0-1. Emory has now allowed one goal over its last 12 games, including six consecutive clean sheets.
The Eagles scored early and often on Tuesday with senior Michelle Davidson leading a first-half surge with her first goal of the season just 2:06 minutes into the game. A loose ball fell to Davidson inside the 18 where she fired home a right-footed shot.
Almost 10 minutes later, freshman Sophia Asiain got on the scoreboard when she lifted a shot from 27 yards out over the leaping reach of the Scots' keeper.
Bozzuti made it a 3-0 game in the 18th minute when she headed in the perfect pass from graduate student Claudia Schmidt for her second goal of the season.
Junior Emily Woodall rounded out the first half scoring as she netted her third goal of the season in the 32nd minute. Woodall scored off her left foot from the top of the box after a far cross from freshman Siena Elder clanked off a Maryville defender before falling to the foot of Woodall.
Bozzuti cashed in for the second time on the night in the 61st minute when a pass behind the Maryville defense from Woodall found a streaking Bozzuti allowing her to score from 18 yards out.
The Eagles finished the night with a 29-3 lead in total shots with juniors Kaitlyn Nimmer and Zia Tomlin tying for the team lead with four shots each. Emory posted 13 shots on a goal and did not allow a SOG to the Scots in the game.
Emory will remain home for a showcase weekend as the top-ranked Eagles will host No. 3 Chicago on Friday night before welcoming No. 2 WashU to Atlanta on Sunday for Senior Day.
