The No. 20 ranked Emory University men's soccer team was handed a tough-luck defeat Sunday afternoon, falling to Roanoke College by a score of 1-0 on the campus of Oglethorpe University in Brookhaven, Georgia.
The Eagles held the Maroons in check across the Maroons as Emory won the shot battle, 13-4, and held a 3-2 edge in shots on goal.
After holding Roanoke to just two shots in the first half, with neither being on target, the Maroons cashed in with their first shot on goal as Harrison Kraus scored the difference maker in the 66h minute.
Emory recorded several chances over the final 24 minutes of the game with senior Hayden Binfield providing the lone opportunity with his SOG in the 83rd minute but it was turned away from the RC keeper.
Graduate transfer Ryan Winkler and junior Josh Grand each posted three shots in the game to lead both offenses.
The Eagles are now headed to Colorado Springs, Colorado next weekend to face UT-Dallas on Friday before a NCAA Second Round rematch with Colorado College on Saturday.
