The Emory University women's soccer team stayed in complete control to open the season as the Eagles earned another dominant victory Friday afternoon as they toppled Southern Virginia to the tune of 5-0 on the campus of Berry College in Mount Berry, Georgia.
Five different Eagles scored in the win with three additional players collecting assists as Emory improved to 2-0 on the young season. Of the five goal scorers, four were freshman as Emory's talented newcomers continued to impress. The Eagles out shot the Knights 40-1 across the 90 minutes and had an 18-0 advantage in shots on goal.
Sophomore Kaitlyn Nimmer was the first in the game to find the scoring column as she found nylon in the ninth minute off the feed from junior Nikki Grosso. The goal was Nimmer's second of the campaign.
Following Nimmer, freshman Laina Denys notched an unassisted tally in the 39th minute to give Emory a 2-0 into the halftime break.
In the second, three rookies helped put the game out of reach. Mikayla Camp recorded her second goal thanks to an assist from sophomore Katie Hungness in the 57th minute. The scoring continued later in the half when Alexandra Burtis-Wyant and Marley Altarac secured their first career goals in the 73rd and 85th minutes. Fellow rookie Ansley McCaffrey had the assist on Burtis-Wyant's marker while Altarac's free kick from 35 yards out found its way into the back corner.
The Eagles look to continue their dominant start the season on Sunday when they oppose Berry College in a 1:00 PM kickoff.
