The Emory University volleyball program opened the first UAA Round Robin tournament with wins against the WashU Bears and the University of Rochester Yellowjackets on Saturday afternoon in New York, New York.

The Eagles improve to 13-1 on the season and start conference play 2-0. Emory also picked up its sixth ranked win of the season against the No. 8 ranked Bears. Senior
Jessica Majka was an offensive force for the Eagles notching 19 total kills including 13 against WashU. Junior
Kate LaRocco continued her impressive season posting 18 kills on the day.

Game 1: Emory 3, WashU 1

The opening of set one saw a back and forth battle from both sides of the net with the Eagles tying the match at four apiece on kills from seniors
Madison Cail and Majka. The Bears followed with a 7-2 run to hold an 11-6 lead taking advantage of a stellar offense but Emory answered with five straight points to tie the match again at 11. The scoring continued from each team for the next nine points while WashU was able to hold onto the lead before finishing with an 8-3 run giving the Bears a one set advantage following the 25-17 line.

Emory answered strong in the second set holding the lead for most of the set. The Eagles jumped to a 4-1 lead over the Bears but WashU answered with a 4- run to cut Emory's lead, 6-5. Kills from a multitude of teammates helped widen the gap for the Eagles going for an 11-1 run to hold a 17-6 advantage towards the end of the set. The end of the set saw points from both side of the net but Emory was able to tie the match with a 25-14 set two victory.

The third set saw a number of ties to open the set with each team taking an advantage at some point. After falling behind 8-6, the Eagles were able to take advantage of attack errors from the Bears to tie the set at eight points. Emory continued to play catchup for the next few points before notching four straight points to take a slight 15-13 lead but the Bears answered with a 10-6 lead to later tie the set again at 23 apiece. Alana Dawson finished the set 25-23 and the Eagles took a 2-1 lead in the match.

The momentum continued for Emory into the fourth set opening with a 5-2 lead including two service aces from Cail. The Bears responded with five points of their own to later take a 7-6 advantage but Emory was able to follow with a 12-7 lead on attack errors from WashU's offense. The scoring continued on both sides of the net and the Bears were able to tie the set again at 23 points but the effort fell short and the Eagles clinched the match with a 25-23 win.

Game 2: Emory 3, Rochester 0

The Yellowjackets opened the first set with a battle posting five ties in the match in the first eight points for each team. After Rochester took a 9-8 lead, the Eagles answered with four straight points to later take a 12-10 advantage before going on a 7-3 run to hold a 19-13 lead. The Yellowjackets battled back cutting Emory's lead to 19-18 before later tying the match at 22 apiece but the Eagles were able to finish set one with a 25-23 score.
Set two started strong for Rochester opening with a 10-3 lead taking advantage of attack errors from the Eagles. Emory fought back with six points of their own but the Jackets continued on their side of the net before the Eagles tied the set at 14 apiece. The next few points of the match saw five ties between the two programs before Rochester pulled away with a 23-21 lead. Emory rounded out the second set with a 5-1 run to take the set 26-24.

Neither team gave up in the third set with both teams scoring points for a 9-9 tie to start the set. The back and forth continued before the Eagles pulled away for a 17-16 lead taking advantage of attack errors from the Jackets. Rochester continued to battle but the Eagles finished the set with an 8-6 run to clinch the match with a 25-22 victory.

The Eagles will face the No. 21 ranked Case Western Reserve Spartans on Sunday, September 29 at 12:00 PM in New York City.
