#13 Women's Soccer Rallies for 2-1 Win Over Lynchburg in Charlotte

The No. 13 ranked Emory University women's soccer team rallied from a first half deficit to defeat the University of Lynchburg, 2-1, Sunday afternoon at the Charlotte Soccer Academy in Charlotte, North Carolina.

For the fourth straight season, the Eagles and Hornets met halfway with Emory winning its third in a row in the southeast rivalry. Following the win, the Eagles now stand at 6-1 while the Hornets drop to 2-3-1.

Despite outshooting Lynchburg 10-4 in the first half, Emory sat one goal behind through 45 minutes. At the three-minute mark, the first shot of the game for either team found the back of the net as Lynchburg's Madelyn Boyce scored from the left side.

One of Emory's best scoring threats in the opening half came from senior Chayse Corfman in the 28th minute as her attempt from straight on and 20-yards out found the middle of the crossbar.

The Eagles had five more shots on target across the final 17 minutes, including a pair from freshman Mikayla Camp, but were unable to equal the score.

Following a few more close chances as play resumed in the second half, it was not until the 68th minute before Emory leveled the score. Sophomore Kaitlyn Nimmer sent a corner into box that deflected off classmate Kaitlin Ogilvie and a Lynchburg defender. The loose ball found sophomore Emily Woodall on the right side who played the volley in for the score.

A few minutes later, Camp tacked on to her team-lead with her six goal of the campaign in the 74th minute. Nimmer played a great ball into the box where Camp was there to finish it home.

The Emory backline allowed just two shots over the final 16 minutes to preserve the 2-1 final. Junior Sophia Garcia made four saves to win her sixth decision of the year.

The Eagles are idle until Tuesday, October 1st when the team returns to the WoodPEC to host Sewanee in a 5:00 PM kickoff.
