#13 Women's Soccer Scores Late to Draw Sewanee, 1-1

The No. 13 ranked Emory University women's soccer team was in front of its home fans for the first time in over a month on Tuesday, playing to a 1-1 tie with the Sewanee Tigers at the Woodruff PE Center.

The Eagles struggled to shake off an eight-day layoff as they ended in a draw with the Tigers. The tie was the first for Emory this season, moving to 6-1-1, while Sewanee has now tied for the fourth time in 10 matches as they see their record go to 5-1-4.

Despite outshooting the Tigers 14-4 in the first half, the Eagles trailed at the break by a 1-0 margin. Sewanee's Stella Martin had a shot blocked with the deflection finding Samantha Ferry on the right side. Ferry played the redirect perfectly, one-timing a shot to the far post where it drew post and ricocheted across the goal line.

The Eagles had several opportunities to draw even but it was not until the 80th minute that they found the game-tying score. A handball inside the box earned the Eagles a penalty kick chance. Sophomore Kaitlyn Nimmer stepped to the spot and notched her fifth goal of the season.

Following Nimmer's equalizer, the Eagles had two more chances from freshman Emory Bozzuti and junior Nikki Grosso in the closing minutes but neither shot were on frame.

Emory will look to rebound on Saturday as the Eagles will welcome No. 1 ranked WashU to Atlanta for the UAA opener. Kick off is scheduled for 11:00 AM at the WoodPEC.
