Emily Woodall Records Hat Trick as #20 Eagles Trounce Oglethorpe, 7-0

The No. 20 ranked Emory University women's soccer team netted a season-high seven goals as they returned to the win column Tuesday night with a 7-0 win over crosstown foe Oglethorpe University in Brookhaven.

Four different Eagles had at least one goal and one assist with sophomore Emily Woodall headlining the action with the second hat trick for Emory this season. With the win, the Eagles improved to 7-2-1 while the Stormy Petrels fell to 4-6-1.

Woodall put forth one of the highest-scoring outings in a single-game in program history as she scored three times and added an assist for seven points. The hat trick is the second for the Eagles in 2024 following freshman Mikayla Camp's three-goal performance in the win over Berry on September 8. Tuesday also marked Woodall's second career game with two or more goals. In addition to Woodall, Camp, sophomore Kaitlyn Nimmer and freshmen Emory Bozzuti all had one goal and one assist in the victory.

The action favored the Eagles all night as Emory out shot Oglethorpe 39-1 and had 26 shots on goal. Emory also earned 13 corner kicks on the night compared to zero by the Stormy Petrels. Woodall and Bozzuti tied for the team lead with seven shots with sophomore Katie Hungness leading the team with five shots on frame.

The Eagles came out firing, logging their first shot attempt within the opening 15 seconds and would not let up across the opening 45 minutes. Emory had 25 shots in the first half, 18 on goal, but led only by three at the break as Oglethorpe's Grace Elsevier made 15 saves to keep the score marginally close.

After having 10 shots within the first 12 minutes, the Eagles found the scoreboard in the 14th minute as junior Nikki Grosso scored for the first time in 2024. Camp provided a cross into the box to an unmarked Grosso who was able to tap it into the low post.

Ninety seconds later, Woodall scored the first of her three as she fired a mid-range shot from straight on off the feed from senior Chayse Corfman. In the 23rd minute, Nimmer notched her team-leading eighth goal as Bozzuti stole the ball following an Oglethorpe miscue off a goal kick and dished it to Nimmer who buried it home.

Despite Elsevier's best efforts to keep the game close, Emory busted open the scoring following the break with four more tallies in the second half.

Bozzuti began the scoring following the return to play in the 59th minute as she and Nimmer connected once again on a goal. Nimmer sent a delivery into the box where Bozzuti provided the finish.

In the 63rd minute, Woodall once more scored from straight on as she ripped a shot in from 20 yards out. Six minutes later, she dumped a pass off to Camp who then finished from the right side.

Woodall had the final tally in the 72nd minute when sophomore Zia Tomlin sent a low cross to the far post where Woodall settled it nicely before sending it home at the left post.

Provided with ample offensive support, the Eagles goalkeeping trio of Sophia Garcia, Rachel Carr and Lilah Gery were able to secure the team's fifth clean sheet of the season.

Emory returns to UAA competition on Sunday, October 13th as the Eagles welcome No. 11 ranked Case Western Reserve to Atlanta for a 11:00 AM kickoff.
