#20 Women's Soccer Takes Down #11 CWRU, 2-0, for First UAA Win

The No. 20 ranked Emory University women's soccer team earned its first University Athletic Association win Sunday afternoon, taking down the No. 11 ranked Case Western Reserve Spartans, 2-0, at the Woodruff PE Center in Atlanta, Georgia.

Two second half goals helped the Eagles prevail in the battle of nationally ranked teams. With the win, Emory evens its conference mark at 1-1 and moves to 8-2-1 overall. The loss was the first dealt to the Spartans this season as they dropped to 7-1-4 and 0-1-1 inside UAA play.

The Eagles came out as the aggressors, holding a 9-4 advantage in shots and a 6-3 edge in shots on goal but were unable to find the back of the net as the teams were locked in a scoreless draw at the halftime break.

Sophomore Katie Hungness broke the scoreless draught early in the second half with her third goal of the season. Freshman Mikayla Camp provided the cross to the far side where Hungness corralled the pass for the finish.

Later in the half, the Eagles doubled their lead as a cross destined for Camp from freshman Emory Bozzuti was deflected into the goal off a CWRU defender for an own goal in the 69th minute.

That was all the offensive support the Eagles needed as the backline held the Spartans to just five shots, three on frame, and allowed just one shot in the second half. The shutout was Emory's sixth of the season.

The Eagles have a quick turnaround as they'll travel to Tennessee on Monday, October 14 to oppose Maryville in the non-conference finale. Kickoff is set for 6:00 PM.
