The No. 20 ranked Emory University women's soccer team earned its third straight shutout Monday evening, defeating Maryville College, 4-0, in the non-conference finale in Maryville, Tennessee.
Three different Eagles found the back of the net as Emory ran its overall record to 9-2-1 and handed the Scots their second loss, falling to 8-2-4. Freshman Emory Bozzuti recorded her first career brace with two second half goals and classmate Mikayla Camp set a career high with three assists – the most by an Eagle in a single-game this season.
Emory controlled possession on Monday, posting a 26-5 margin in total shots and owned a 10-1 edge in shots on goal. Corner kicks were even with the Eagles in front 8-6.
Junior Nikki Grosso supplied the lone first half tally as she gave Emory a 1-0 lead at the 8:15 mark. Camp put an initial shot on frame but was turned away. The rebound fell to Grosso who was able to finish it from nine yards out for her second marker of the year.
Bozzuti was quick to open the scoring in the second half as she scored the first of her two goals in the 48th minute after the return from the break. Bozzuti slotted a shot under the diving keeper from 15 yards out following passes from Camp and junior Samantha Lim.
Sophomore Kaitlyn Nimmer found the scoring column for the fourth time in five games, and sixth of the last eight, when she made it a 3-0 Emory lead in the 54th minute. Camp chased the ball down on the end line and dished to Nimmer who finished from close range at the near post. The goal was Nimmer's team-leading ninth goal of the season as she matches her output from her freshman campaign.
Bozzuti tacked on one more goal at the 68:52 mark to provide the 4-0 final. Junior Michelle Davidson and sophomore Madison Teng combined on finding the passing lanes to hit Bozzuti on the run where she fired a shot in from 12 yards out for her fourth of the year.
Junior Sophia Garcia and sophomore Rachel Carr combined for the shutout, making one save across the 90 minutes. The clean sheet is the seventh of the season for the Eagles.
Emory returns to UAA competition on Saturday, traveling to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to battle the No. 4 ranked Carnegie Mellon Tartans in a 11:00 AM kickoff.
