Former Emory University baseball standout and pitching coach, Connor McGuiness '12, celebrates the 2024 World Series title with the Los Angeles Dodgers. On Wednesday night, the Dodgers captured their eighth MLB championship after defeating the New York Yankees, winning the series clincher, 7-6, in game five of the series in the Bronx, New York. McGuiness is pictured in the third row on the left in between Shohei Ohtani and Yoshinobu Yamamoto.
McGuiness was a member of the Emory baseball program from 2008-12, serving as a co-captain his final two seasons. After completing his undergraduate degree, McGuiness joined the Eagles' coaching staff during the 2014-15 seasons and helped Emory to consecutive College World Series appearances including a berth to the 2014 national championship series.
He joined the Dodgers organization in 2016 as the pitching coach with the High-A Great Lakes Loons before he was elevated to the pitching coach with the Single-A Rancho Cucamonga Quakes in 2018. McGuiness has spent the past five seasons with the big league club as the Assistant Pitching Coach, winning a World Series title previously in 2020.
