Game Recap: Women's Soccer | | Phil Engel - Director of Communications & Sports Information

#23 Women's Soccer Plays to Scoreless Draw with #15 NYU

The No. 23 ranked Emory University women's soccer team battled No. 15 ranked New York University to a scoreless draw Sunday afternoon at Lubetkin Field at J. Malcolm Simon Stadium on the campus of NJIT in Newark, New Jersey.

The tie marks the second for the Eagles in 2024, and the first inside UAA competition, as Emory moves to 10-3-2 overall and 2-2-1 in conference play. For the Violets, they see their record move to 9-2-5 and now sit 1-2-2 through five league games.

Sunday was an evenly matched affair with both sides earning eight shot attempts and Emory holding a 4-2 edge in corner kicks. Neither side could muster many shots on goal as the Eagles had four of the game's six on frame.

Emory saw three of its four shots on goal come in the first half with its best opportunity occurring in the 31st minute when senior Claudia Schmidt delivered an attempt after a free kick. Her shot was headed towards the top netting but a leaping save to push the ball over the crossbar from NYU's Riley Felsher kept the game scoreless.

NYU saw more chances in the second half with a 5-3 margin in total shots, however both teams accounted for just one shot on goal each.

Sophomore Kaitlyn Nimmer provided the Eagles' lone SOG of the half in the 56th minute while junior Sophia Garcia made a save on NYU's Rena Kalargiros in the 83rd minute. Garcia finished the game with two saves as she earned her second straight shutout.

The Eagles return to Atlanta next Saturday, November 2 to host the University of Chicago at 11:00 AM.
