The Emory men's tennis team traveled to Greensboro, North Carolina to compete in the University of North Carolina Greensboro on Sunday. The Eagles competed against UNCG, Radford, and Queens University of Charlotte. After a number of matches, the Eagles totaled 14 wins on the day.
The Eagles started with doubles matches against Queens. Freshman
Ruilin Feng and sophomore
Christian Liew won their match, in the No. 1 position 6-4, while freshman
Alec Anghel and senior
Emilio Van Cotthem also won in the No. 4 spot, 7-5. Graduate student
Efe Comu and junior
Dean Kamenev lost their match in the No. 2 spot, 4-6, and junior
John Lasanajak and graduate student
Charley Force also lost, 1-6, in the No. 3 position.
The Eagles then took on Radford in doubles play, taking two of the three matches. Kamenev teamed up with Liew in the No. 1 position and won their match, 6-4, while Force and Lasanajak won their second match together, 6-3, this time playing in the No. 3 position. Comu and Feng teamed up for their match against Radford, dropping their tilt, 4-6, in the No. 2 slot.
The Eagles were then pitted against UNCG as the two played eight singles matches. Emory took five of the eight matches as Liew won in the No. 3 spot (6-1. 6-3), Force triumphed in the No. 4 spot (7-5, 6-4), Van Cotthem took his match in the No. 5 position (6-1, 7-5), Feng held down the No. 7 spot (6-1, 6-0), and Lasanajak won in the eighth position (6-2, 6-0). Comu lost in the top spot (3-6, 0-6), Kamenev in the second (6-7(6), 4-6), and sophomore
Ryan Nash fell in the No. 6 spot (2-6, 2-6).
The Eagles wrapped up their day with against Queens with seven singles matches. Emory picked up five more wins as Liew picked up another win, playing in the No. 2 spot (6-4, 6-4), Feng earned another win in the No. 4 spot (6-2, 6-1), Van Cotthem handled the No. 5 position (6-4, 7(4)-6), Lasanajak won a three-set match in the No. 6 spot (7-5, 6-7(7), 1(3)-0), and Anghel won his first singles match of the day in the No. 7 slot (6-3, 6-3). Meanwhile, Comu dropped his match in the No. 1 position (5-7, 6-7(2)) and Force fell in his match at the No. 3 spot (5-7, 6-7(4)).
This concludes the Eagles' fall slate of competition. The ITA Indoor National Championships will be the next event on the schedule, taking place from February 21
st through February 23
rd. The next dual match will come against UAA foe Carnegie Mellon at the Woodruff P.E. Center on March 2
nd.
