Women's Basketball Downs #25 WashU, 76-73, to Continue Win Streak

The Emory University women's basketball team continued their impressive season on Friday night defeating the No. 25 ranked WashU Bears in St. Louis, Missouri.

The No. 6 ranked Eagles improve to 12-1 on the season and hold a 12-game win streak. It was a night for career-highs with junior Morgan Laudick leading the way for the Eagles with a career-high 22 points and was just one rebound away from a double-double. Laudick shot 50 percent from the field and went 4-4 at the line. Graduate student Claire Brock followed Laudick with 18 points of her own going 4-8 from beyond the arc and 7-18 from the field. Sophomore Lily Kennedy showed out with a career-high 12 points in the win going 3-4 in threes and 4-8 in field goals made. Rounding out the Eagles was junior Daniella Aronsky who totaled 10 assists on the night.

The first quarter started with a quick 6-2 Emory lead thanks to back to back jumpers from juniors Erin Martin and Laudick with 7:26 on the clock. After going up 10-7, the Bears looked for a comeback of their own tightening the score to 10-9 before taking a 13-10 lead with just under five minutes in the quarter. Five points from Kennedy gave the Eagles the lead again with fellow sophomore Chloe Kreusser giving Emory a 19-13 lead. Another jumper from Laudick helped the Eagles to a 26-20 lead heading into the second quarter.

Early in the second quarter, the Eagles took a 10-point 32-22 advantage over WashU on a jumper from Martin before Kennedy's second three of the day put Emory up 35-24. Kreusser gave the Eagles their 40th point of the game with 4:52 left on the clock before going scoreless until 2:07 was left in the quarter. A late jumper from Martin brought the game to a 45-37 Emory advantage heading into the locker room.

The Eagles got off to a quick start in the third quarter taking a 54-39 lead from back to back layups from Laudick and sophomore Katherine Martini with just over six minutes on the clock. Freshman Alexandra Loucopoulos entered the game with a layup giving Emory a 61-47 lead with 3:03 remaining in the quarter before late free throws from the Bears made it a 61-49 game entering the fourth quarter.

The Bears were able to close the gap early in the fourth quarter bringing the score to 64-59 with 7:21 on the clock before later holding Emory to a 71-65 advantage with under five minutes remaining. WashU then went on a 8-5 run in the last four minutes but the Eagles were able to hold on and continue their win streak.

Emory will travel to Chicago, Illinois on Sunday, January 14 where they will face the Chicago Maroons at 2:00 PM EST.
