Box Score The No. 2-ranked Emory volleyball team closed out a productive weekend at the University Athletic Association Robin I on Sunday afternoon with a victory over Carnegie Mellon. The Eagles boosted their overall record to 11-1 (3-0 in UAA) following a 3-0 decision (25-22, 25-20, 25-22) over the No. 12 Tartans who slipped to 13-2 overall, 2-1 in the conference. Brandeis University served as the host of the UAA Round Robin I.
In a defensive battle, Emory ended up hitting .179 (38-18—112) compared to CMU's .110 (33-21—109), the 11th time this year that it held the upper hand in the category. Sophomore Tara Martin hit .375 after pounding out a match-high 11 kills with two errors in 24 attempts. Martin has totaled 10 or more terminations in six contests this season. Senior Morgan McKnight was next up on the squad's score sheet with nine kills while junior Leah Saunders finished with seven. The Eagles held a 48-45 margin in digs and were spearheaded in that department by senior Elyse Thompson's 10. Junior Finn Wilkins disrupted the CMU attack throughout the contest, dialing up a career-high 10 total blocks (3-7) which aided Emory in posting a 12-7 cushion over the Tartans.
Emory will look to extend a five-match winning streak on Thursday (Sept. 26) when it plays host to Oglethorpe University in a 6:00 pm start.
