Emory Men's Basketball Rolls By Brandeis

Box Score

Sophomore Austin DaGue scored a career high 19 points and junior Will Trawick also added 19 points in leading the Emory men's basketball team to a Friday evening win at home over Brandeis University.  The No. 14-ranked Eagles raised their overall to 15-4, 5-3 in the University Athletic Association, after posting an 89-53 decision over the Judges who slipped to 7-12 overall, 2-6 in the league.

DaGue ended the evening hitting seven-of-eight from the floor and all five of his free throw attempts en route to his fourth double-digit scoring performance of the season.  Trawick was successful on six of his 13 field goal opportunities, including five-of-10 from three-point range, in chalking up his 11th double-figure scoring outing of the year. Trawick also paced all players with 12 rebounds, which allowed him to register his second career double-double.  Senior Michael Florin rounded out the team's double-figure scorers with 10 points and six assists.

After building a 14-point halftime cushion, the Eagles blitzed Brandeis with a 23-2 barrage over the opening 6:31 of the second half to take a commanding lead of 64-29.  Trawick scored the first five points of the blitz while senior Alex Foster and DaGue accounted for seven and six points, respectively.  Later on in the stanza, Emory rattled off a 15-3 spurt, highlighted by triples by Trawick, sophomore Jonathan Terry and freshman Whit Rapp, to balloon its advantage to 84-40 with 4:01 on the clock.  Rapp tied Florin for team honors with a season-high six assists.

Emory ended the contest hitting 50.8 percent (33-of-65) from the field, including 44 percent (11-of-25) from long range, its ninth contest of 10 or more treys this season. Brandeis hit on just 29.8 percent (17-of-57) from the floor, the 10th time this year that the Eagles limited the opposition to less than 40 percent.   Emory finished with a 43-33 advantage in the rebounding department and turned the ball over a season-low six times.  All 15 players on the roster saw action with 11 scoring and 10 grabbing rebounds.

With DaGue scoring a couple of buckets, Emory outscored Brandeis by a 10-0 count to claim a 22-10 lead with 11:05 left in the first half.  The Eagles would lead by as many as 16 points twice during the opening 20 minutes of play, the final time with 3:14 on the clock following a DaGue three-point play.  DaGue scored 11 points and Trawick chipped eight points in helping Emory to a 41-27 lead heading into halftime.

The Eagles, 10-0 at home this season, return to action on Sunday (Feb. 8) when they host New York University.
