Box Score 2 The No. 2-ranked Emory volleyball team opened its 2014 campaign Saturday afternoon with a victory over Randolph-Macon College at the Berry College Invitational. The Eagles topped the Yellow Jackets by a 3-1 count (25-23, 25-14, 25-27, 25-16).
Senior Leah Jacobs (Linville, VA) was the lone Emory player to record double-figure kills, registering 17 terminations, her third-highest career effort, while finishing the contest with a .308 attack percentage (17-5—39). Sophomore middle Jessica Holler (Roswell, GA) was next up on the squad with nine kills to go along with a keen .533 hitting mark (9-1—15). Holler also led all players with five total blocks (3-2). Senior Kate Bowman (Corpus Christi, TX) led the Eagles with 14 digs while junior setter Sydney Miles (Oklahoma City, OK) doled out 37 assists.
For the match, Emory compiled a .236 attack percentage (52-19—140) compared to RMC's .115 (44-28—139). The Yellow Jackets held a slight 63-60 advantage in the digs department while the Eagles closed out the match with a 7-2 edge in total blocks.
Emory will wind up Saturday's action at the Invitational with a 6:00 p.m. battle against Lynchburg College.
