Emory Volleyball Opens UAA Round Robin I With Two Wins

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

The No. 3-ranked Emory volleyball team opened University Athletic Association play on a successful note Saturday as it posted two wins on the first day of action of the league's Round Robin I.  The Eagles boosted their winning streak to eight matches and upped their overall record to 20-2 (2-0 UAA) following 3-0 victories over Case Western Reserve (25-20, 25-19, 25-16) and the University of Rochester (25-16, 25-8, 25-10).  The UAA Round Robin I is being hosted by Emory.

Senior Leah Jacobs topped Emory's offensive effort against CWRU, registering 23 kills, her fourth outing of the year with 20 or more terminations and tying her second-highest career total, while finishing with a .487 attack percentage (23-4—39).  Jacobs was the lone Eagle to close out the contest with double digits in that department, with senior Cat McGrath and sophomore Sarah Maher coming up with nine successful attack opportunities.  Junior setter Sydney Miles dished out 42 assists while sophomore Sheridan Rice tied for match honors with 12 digs.  Emory wound up hitting .304 (58-20—125) compared to the Spartans' effort of .173 (26-9—98).  The Eagles held a 55-40 cushion in digs while CWRU claimed a 5-2 edge in total blocks.

Emory rolled by Rochester, registering a .375 hitting mark (36-6—80) while limiting the Yellowjackets to -.086 (18-36—93).  It represented the seventh time in the last eight matches that the Eagles hit .300 or higher and the 21st time this year that they had outhit their opposition.  Maher hit a match-leading .550, racking up 13 terminations, her fifth contest this year in double figures, with just two errors in 20 swings.  Maher also tied freshman Madeline DeShazer with a match-leading five total (1-4) blocks. Jacobs came through with 10 kills, a .435 hitting performance (10-0—23) and four of the squad's seven service aces.  Bowman aided in the win with 14 digs.

Emory closes out the Round Robin I on Sunday with a match vs. Carnegie Mellon that is slated to begin at noon.
