Box Score

Senior McPherson Moore exploded for a career-high 31 points and the Emory men's basketball team got back into the win column with a Sunday afternoon triumph over Case Western Reserve University.  The Eagles raised their overall record to 10-4, 2-1 in the University Athletic Association, following a102-76 decision over the Spartans who fell to 9-5 overall, 1-2 in the league.

Moore finished 12-of-18 from the floor, including a career-best seven three-point field goals in 10 tries.  Moore's seven treys tied the program's third-highest individual total while his 70.0 percent effort from beyond the arc tied the fifth-highest mark.   Senior Jake Davis aided in the win by continuing his torrid scoring pace, racking up 27 points on the day on 10-of-15 field goal shooting while converting all five of his free throw opportunities.   Sophomore Alex Foster rounded out the team's double-figure scorers with a season-high 16 points.

Both Emory and Case shot the ball well from the field with the Eagles successful on a season-high 54.3 percent (38-of-70) while CWRU finished at 51.9 percent (28-of-54).  Emory hit a blazing 57.7 percent from beyond the arc (15-of-26) compared to the Spartans' 50 percent (12-of-24).  Emory's season-high 15 three pointers tied the third-highest game total in school history.  The Eagles enjoyed a 34-25 edge in rebounding and were led in that category by Davis who snagged seven boards.  Junior Michael Florin dished out a season-high tying 10 assists with no turnovers in 26 minutes of action. The Eagles turned the ball over on just eight occasions, their straight single-digit outing.

The first half was a three-point shooting jamboree as the teams combined for 20 treys.  Behind Moore's six-for-seven performance, Emory hit an astounding 70.6 percent (12-of-17) from distance while the Spartans connected on 66.7 percent (8-of-12) of their opportunities.  Moore tallied 22 points, sinking eight-of-nine from the floor, while Davis chipped in 12 points.  Emory got out of the blocks quickly, hitting nine of its first 14 from the floor, including a pair of treys by Moore, in bolting out to a 22-9 advantage just six minutes into the stanza.  Emory would lead by as many as 14 points on two occasions before taking a 50-40 lead into halftime.

Holding a 58-46 lead early in the second half, Emory used a 7-0 run, started with a three-point play by Florin, that extended its lead to 65-46 with 16:06 left in the contest.  The Spartans drew to within 13 points with 13:14 on the clock following a bucket by Julien Person, but the Eagles rattled off a 13-4 burst over a 6:30 span, with Foster scoring seven points and Moore hitting another trey, to balloon its cushion to 22 points, 83-61, with 7:51 remaining.

Emory returns to action next Friday (Jan. 24) when it plays at New York University.
