Box Score 2 The Emory volleyball team upped its record to 5-0 following a pair of opening-day victories at the Randolph-Macon invitational. The Eagles topped Hardin-Simmons, 3-1 (22-25, 26-24, 25-20, 25-18), in its first contest of the day before posting a 3-0 decision (25-12, 25-22, 25-17) over Averett.
Emory hit .336 (51-14--110) against Hardin-Simmons while holding the Cowgirls to a mark of .116 (43-29--121). Juniors Kate Bowman and Leah Jacobs tied for the squad's lead with 15 kills apiece while freshman Jessica Holler rounded out the team's double-digit performers in that category with 10 terminations. Bowman also topped the squad with 10 digs.
The Eagles continued their torrid offensive attack in the Averett encounter, compiling an impressive .363 (47-10--102) attack percentage. Sophomore Ashley Crawford set the pace for the club in kills with a dozen and closed out the contest hitting .375 (12-3--24). Junior Cat McGrath and freshman Kathryn Trinka each totaled six successful attack attempts. Sophomore Taylor Erwin led Emory with 11 digs.
Emory closes out the Invitational on Saturday with matches against Trinity University and host Randolph-Macon.
