Box Score 2 The No. 4-ranked Emory volleyball team closed out a successful weekend at the Maryville College Invitational on Saturday with a pair of victories. The Eagles opened the day with a 3-0 decision over Centre College (25-21, 25-15, 25-21) before registering an identical score over Hanover College (25-20, 25-20, 25-12). Emory now stands 4-0 on the young season.
Senior Breanah Bourque sparked the team's offensive effort against the Colonels of Centre, pounding out a squad-best 12 kills. Senior Alex Duhl and sophomore Kate Bowman each delivered eight terminations with Bowman adding two aces. Sophomore Dana Holt dished out 37 assists while freshman Taylor Erwin contributed 22 digs in the triumph.
In their final match of the weekend, Duhl chalked up 10 kills while a trio of Eagles, Bowman, Bourque and sophomore Cami Silverman, tallied seven put-aways. Bourque also finished the affair with four total blocks (3-1). Freshman Sydney Miles aided in the outcome with 37 assists with Erwin coming through with another good defensive effort with 13 digs.
Emory returns to action on Monday (Sept. 3) when it plays at Lee University (5-3), the No. 3-ranked program in the NAIA ranks, in a 7:00 p.m. start.
