Box Score 2 The No. 4-ranked Emory volleyball team opened its 2012 season on a successful note on Friday, capturing two matches at the Maryville College Invitational. In the Eagles' opening action of the tourney, they topped Rhodes College, 3-1 (25-14,
11-25, 25-23, 25-17) before posting a 3-0 triumph against Washington and Lee (25-16, 25-14, 25-21).
Sophomore Kate Bowman led the Emory offensive attack in the Rhodes match with 10 kills while classmate Cami Silverman chipped in eight terminations along with 12 digs. Freshman Taylor Erwin played a strong defensive contest, registering a team-high 17 digs. Sophomore Hannah Everett aided in the victory with three service aces.
In the day's finale against the Generals of W&L, senior Breanah Bourque tied Bowman for the club's high with seven successful attacks. Boruque added five total blocks, giving her 11 on the day. Erwin added another solid outing with a team-leading 10 digs while Silverman added nine defensive saves. Freshman setter Sydney Miles doled out 24 assists.
Emory rounds out its participation at the Maryville College Invitational on Saturday, tangling with Centre College at 10:00 a.m., before meeting Hanover College at 3:00 p.m.
