The No. 3-ranked Emory volleyball opened the University Athletic
Association Round I on a positive note Saturday, defeating No. 23
New York University, 3-0. The Eagles boosted their record to 14-2
(1-0 UAA) following a 25-15, 25-20, 26-24 decision over the Violets
who slipped to 19-3, 0-1 in the league.
Emory hit 26.3 percent for the match (45-14—118) compared to
10.2 percent (34-21—127) for NYU. The Eagles held a
65-52 edge in digs along with a 6-2 edge in total blocks.
Senior Amelia McCall paced the Emory offensive effort with a
match-high 14 kills while also contributing 10 digs, her fourth
double-double of the year. Junior Jessica McAlvany rounded
out the squad's double-digit attackers with 12
terminations. Sophomore Breanah Bourque made the most of her
hitting opportunities, putting away eight kills in 14 attempts for
a 57.1 hitting percentage. Junior Natalie Schonefeld dished
out 34 assists while freshman Molly Landers tied for match honors
with a season-high 18 digs.
Emory returns to action on Sunday with a pair of contests –
against Carnegie Mellon at 10:00 a.m. and Case Western Reserve
University at 2:00 p.m.
