Box Score 2 The No. 3-ranked Emory University volleyball team closed out the
University Round Robin I in strong fashion on Sunday by capturing a
pair of victories. The Eagles opened the day with a 3-1 win
over New York University (25-22, 19-25, 25-17, 25-20) before
closing out the weekend with a 3-0 triumph (25-23, 25-13, 25-14)
over Carnegie Mellon. The two victories raise Emory's overall
record to 18-2 (3-0 UAA).
The Emory trio of senior Alysse Meyer, sophomore Jessica McAlvany
and freshman Breanah Bourque paced the team's offensive attack in
the NYU encounter with all three sharing for team honors with nine
kills. Sophomore setter Natalie Schonefeld dished out 38
assists and chipped in 10 digs while sophomore Brannan O'Neill led
the Eagles with 12 digs.
Meyer led the team with 11 terminations against Carnegie Mellon and
was aided by McAlvany and freshman Alex Duhl who each finished with
eight kills. Senior Vista Murphy and McAlvany kept CMU off
balance with tough serving that saw each player chalk up three
service aces. Bourque spearheaded a strong effort at the next
with six blocks (1-5-6) which helped the Eagles finish with 10
total blocks.
Emory returns to action on Friday, Oct. 9, when it hosts Armstrong
Atlantic at 6:00 p.m.
