The Emory University volleyball team brought home the crown in its
Halloween Tournament on Saturday, posting wins over Randolph-Macon
and Birmingham Southern. The Eagles bested RMC, 3-0 (25-17,
25-16, 25-22), before topping the Panthers of BSC, 3-1 (25-20,
25-21, 21-25, 25-18). The two wins increased the club's
winning streak to nine matches and increased its overall record to
30-5.
Sophomore Jessica McAlvany turned in big performances in each
contest, leading all players in kills in each affair, notching 21
against Randolph Macon, her second-highest total of the campaign,
and 19 against Birmingham Southern. Junior Amelia McCall
chipped in 11 terminations against RMC while senior Alysse Meyer
contributed 12 kills vs. BSC.
Senior Vista Murphy provided outstanding defensive play,
registering a season-high 20 digs against Birmingham Southern while
opening the day with 17 saves in the opener against
Randolph-Macon.
Emory's 30 wins marks the third straight and seventh in the past
eight campaigns that it has reached that plateau.
The No. 4-ranked Eagles return to action next Friday and Saturday
(Nov. 6-7) when it plays at the University Athletic Association
Championships in Chicago.
