Biography

Senior (2020-21):

NCAA Division III Doubles National Champion…ITA National Senior Player of the Year…ITA All-American in singles and doubles…All-UAA selection in singles and doubles…Gonzalez-Rico completed her stellar career in 2021 by leading Emory to the NCAA team title and by being crowned the NCAA doubles national champion with Katie Chang after the duo had an unblemished 16-0 season…In addition, Gonzalez-Rico tied for the team lead with 11 singles victories and advanced to the semifinals at the NCAA Individual Championships…She went 3-0 at the No. 1 position across the final three matches of the NCAA tournament including a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Wesleyan’s Venia Yeung in the title match…In doubles, her and Chang’s perfect 16-0 season is the best by any Emory duo with a minimum of 15 matches played and the first Emory tandem to win the NCAA championship since 2004.

Junior (2019-20):

Earned ITA All-America honors in singles…Named to the All-University Athletic Association Team in singles…Went 5-2 in singles and 4-3 in doubles after not playing in the fall due to studying abroad…Was 4-1 in singles against DIII competition and collected a win vs. Penn State’s No.-1 Gabby O’Gorman…Finished as the No.-3 ranked singles player in Division III…Ranked No.-1 in singles and No.-8 in doubles with Jessica Fatemi in the final ITA Atlantic South regional rankings.

Sophomore (2018-19):

Honda Division III Women’s Athlete of the Year award finalist…NCAA Division III Singles National Champion…ITA All-American in both singles and doubles…University Athletic Association Player of the Year…First Team All-UAA for both No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles…ITA Fall Division III Singles National Champion…ITA South Region Champion in singles and doubles…Gonzalez-Rico provided the perfect follow up to her tremendous freshman campaign as she was crowned the NCAA Division III Singles National Champion in the spring, becoming just the fourth individual to accomplish the feat in team history…Finished her spring season with a 22-1 record including a perfect 19-0 mark against Division III foes…Posted a 34-5 overall record in singles, tying the single-season program record for victories…Reached the NCAA DIII Doubles Quarterfinals with Defne Olcay…Advanced to the ITA Fall National Championships after claiming the ITA DIII Singles title…Reached the ITA DIII Doubles semifinals with Jessica Fatemi…Named the UAA Athlete of the Week on five separate occasions.

Freshman (2017-18):

Gonzalez-Rico turned in one of the more dominant freshman seasons in Emory Women’s Tennis history, earning All-America honors in both singles and doubles and was tabbed the ITA Division III Rookie of the Year. She finished her rookie campaign as the No. 2 ranked singles player in Division III and part of the No. 3 ranked doubles team in the country with Bridget Harding. Gonzalez-Rico was just the second freshman ever to win 30 or more singles matches in a season, going 31-7 (second most in a single season in team history), and in doubles, she and Harding set a new program single season record with 34 doubles victories. She added UAA and ITA Atlantic South Rookie of the Year honors and was named the UAA Tournament’s Most Valuable Player, leading the Eagles to their sixth straight conference title. In the fall, she made an immediate impact as a member of the Eagles, claiming both the ITA South Regional singles and doubles crowns and advanced to the ITA Division III Championship match in both disciplines. In the spring, Gonzalez-Rico and Harding advanced to the semifinals of the NCAA DIII Individual Championships before falling to Wesleyan’s Eudice Chong and Victoria Yu, ending the spring season with a 22-3 record which included a string of 19 straight wins.
