Biography

Senior (2005-06):

White, a senior, earned two NCAA national championships thisseason with her wins in both the 500-yard freestyle competition andthe 1650-yard freestyle competition.  This is the secondconsecutive year that she has won two national championships andthe second consecutive year that she has won the 500-yard freestylerelay.  She earned two more All-America certificates with hersecond place finish in the 800-yard freestyle relay and her seventhplace finish in the 200-yard freestyle competition.  At theconference championships this season, White earned the title ofConference Champion in four events with her wins in the 200-yard,the 500-yard, and the 1650-yard freestyle competitions as well asthe 800-yard freestyle relay.  White was named the FemaleSwimmer of the Year in the University Athletic Associationconference.

Junior (2004-05):

Samantha White won two NCAA national championships this season,one in the 500-yard freestyle event, and another as a member of the800-yard freestyle relay. White became the eighth individual inschool history to win a national championship and the second to winat least two in the same year. For the meet, she earned All-Americahonors in four events, three of them as an individual. By doing so,White became the fourth swimmer in school history to have at leastthree individual All-America honors at more than one NCAA nationalmeet. The four All-America citations raised her career total tonine, which ranks 10th in school history. In addition to winningthe 500 free, White was the national runner-up in the 1,650-yardfreestyle event and finished fifth in the 200-yard freestyle. Shescored 61 points at the national meet, accounting for 15 percent ofher team's score, even though she was one of 18 competitors forEmory. White was honored as the squad's Most Valuable Performer. Atthe conference championships, she won the 200- and 500-yardfreestyle events and swam a leg on the first-place 800-yardfreestyle relay unit. For the season, White was sixth on the teamout of 39 competitors in points scored in dual and championshipmeets.

Sophomore (2003-04):

Sophomore Samantha White earned All-America citations in the200-, 500-, and 1650-yard freestyle events at the nationalchampionships. She placed second in the nation in both the 500 and1650 freestyle events. She was also a member of the fifth-place800-yard freestyle relay, increasing her career All-Americacitations to five. White's time of 4:56.66 in the 500 freepreliminaries broke the school record. White turned in the fastesttimes on the team this season in the 200, 500 and 1650 freestyleevents. She was fifth on the team out of 35 competitors in pointsscored in dual and championship meets.

Freshman (2002-03):

At the NCAA championships, freshman Samantha White finishedsixth in the 500-yard freestyle, earning her first careerAll-America certificate. Her time of 5:00.87 in the 500 freestylemakes her the third-fastest individual in school history. Whitefinished fifth out of 33 Emory swimmers for most points scored thisseason in dual and championship meets. White was named theconference Athlete of the Week on consecutive weeks in October(14-20 and 21-27). She was honored as the team's co-Rookie of theYear.
