2006-07 Men's Swimming and Diving
Biography
Senior (2006-07):
Newton finished his Emory career as one of the most decoratedswimmers in school history, earning 10 All-America certificateswith the Eagles, the sixth-most in the program's history. This season, he earned All-America certificates in the 500-free andthe 800-free relay, and All-America honorable mentions in the200-free and the 1650 free. During the season, Newtonrecorded a school-record time of 1:40.12 in the200-freestyle. He was crowned the UAA Champion in the500-free, after finishing first in the event at the ConferenceChampionship meet. Newton also earned a prestigious NCAAPostgraduate Scholarship for his performance both in and out of thepool.
Junior (2005-06):
Newton, a junior, earned the title of National Champion with hiswin in the 500-yard freestyle competition at the NCAA Division IIInational championships. Newton also earned All-Americacertificates with his third place finish in the 400-yard individualmedley and his fifth place finish in the 800-yard freestylerelay. Newton also earned one All-America Honorable Mentionin the 1650-yard freestyle competition. Newton earnedAll-Conference honors in three events including the title ofConference Champion with his win in the 800-yard freestyle relay
Sophomore (2004-05):
Newton, a sophomore, qualified for the NCAA Division IIInational championships for the second consecutive season. This yearNewton acquired three All-America certificates. Newton finishedthird in the 500-yard freestyle and sixth in the 400-yardindividual medley. He also swam a leg on the 800-yard freestylerelay team which finished sixth. Newton holds the fifth-fastesttime in school history in the 500 free. Newton currently has fivecareer All-America certificates. Newton finished 13th on the teamof 40 competitors this season in points scored in dual andchampionship meets.
Freshman (2003-04):
Freshman Tim Newton earned All-America certificates at thenational championships, in the 500-yard freestyle and as a memberof the 800-yard freestyle relay. Newton placed fourth in the nationin the 500 free with a time of 4:34.24. His time was the secondfastest on the team this season and made him the fourth-fastestindividual in that event in school history. Newton also earnedAll-America honorable mention recognition by placing 11th in the400-yard individual medley.
