Biography

Senior (2003-04):

Senior Richard Kinnett became the third individual in schoolhistory to earn All-America honors in three individual events inone year. Kinnett placed second in the 1650-yard freestyle at thenational championships, the fourth consecutive year that he hasfinished in the top-eight in that event. He is one of threeindividuals in school history to earn All-America honors in thesame event for four years. Kinnett also finished fifth in the500-yard free and eighth in the 400-yard individual medley. Kinnettbroke school records in the 1000- and 1650-yard freestyle events.He was sixth on the team out of 32 competitors in points scored indual and championship meets.

Junior (2002-03):

Kinnett, a junior, earned two All-America certificates from asixth-place finish in the 400-yard individual medley and afourth-place finish in the 1650-yard freestyle at the NCAAchampionships. He has a total of five All-America honors in hiscareer. He was named a national Swimmer of the Week bycollegeswimming.com after winning the 1650 freestyle at theconference championship with an NCAA automatic qualifying time.Kinnett was honored once as a conference Athlete of the Week andtwice as an Emory Athlete of the Week. This season, he broke theschool record in the 500-, 1000-, and 1650-yard freestyle events.Kinnett holds five of the fastest 10 swims in school history in the1650-yard freestyle. Kinnett finished third among the team's 32competitors for most points earned in dual and championship meets.

Sophomore (2001-02):

Kinnett, a sophomore, finished sixth in the 1650-yard freestyleand seventh in the 400-yard individual medley at NCAA nationals. Heearned an All America certificate in the 1650 freestyle for thesecond year in a row. Kinnett is the second Eagle in school historyto gain All America recognition in that event. His time after thefirst 1000 yards of his mile broke the school record for the1000-yard freestyle event. Kinnett holds five of the top 10 fastesttimes in school history in the 1650 freestyle.

Freshman (2000-01):

Just five months after a bout of mono, Kinnett broke the UAArecord, swam the second-fastest time in Emory history and becamejust the second Eagle to earn All-America honors in the longestswimming event, the 1650-yard freestyle. Kinnett earned honorablemention All-America recognition with an 11th place finish in the400-yard individual medley. In addition to the 1650, the freshmanis also the second-fastest individual in the 400 IM and the1000-yard freestyle, and the seventh-fastest Eagle ever in the500-yard freestyle.
