Biography
Senior (2004-05):
Halstead, a senior, earned his second straight nationalchampionship in the 200-yard backstroke. Halstead also earned anational championship as a member of the 200-yard medley relayteam. Halstead earned, a school record, six All-Americacertificates this year. Halstead finished second in the 200-yardindividual medley and third in the 100-back and earned two moreAll-America honors as a member of the 800-yard freestyle and the400-yard medley relay teams. Halstead is now second all-time atEmory with 14 career All-America certificates. Halstead also earnedfour all-conference honors this season. He earned two by winningthe 100- and 200-yard backstroke and two others in relay events atthe conference championships. Halstead currently holds the 10fastest times in school history for the 200-yard backstroke.Halstead finished the season in first place among 40 competitors onthe team in points scored in dual and championship meets.
Junior (2003-04):
Junior Chris Halstead earned the title of national champion witha first-place finish in the 200-yard backstroke at the NCAADivision III national championships. Halstead's time of 1:48.13broke the school record in the event that was previously held byHalstead (1:49.45). The time of 1:48.13 is the third-fastestwinning time in NCAA Division III history in the event. He placedfifth in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 1:51.43,which broke a school record. Halstead broke a third school recordin the 100-yard backstroke with a fifth-place finish and a time of50.71. He swam the leadoff leg of the 400-yard medley relay thatfinished second (3:22.06) and broke a school record. He finishedfourth as part of the 200-yard medley relay team (1:33.00).Halstead earned five All-America honors, tying the school recordfor the most in a season. He now holds a total of eight careerAll-America honors. He scored 48 points at the NCAA meet, a schoolrecord by any Eagle. Halstead was voted the team's Most ValuablePerformer.
Sophomore (2002-03):
At the NCAA national meet, Halstead was a member of the 400-yardmedley relay that finished third and the fifth-place 200-yardmedley relay to pick up two All-America certificates. He had theteam's fastest time this season in the 200-yard backstroke(1:50.10) and 200-yard individual medley (1:53.10). The former timeis the second fastest in school history behind his own record fromthe 2001-02 season. The latter time is the third fastest in schoolhistory. Halstead holds four of the fastest 10 swims in schoolhistory in the 200 backstroke.
Freshman (2001-02):
The freshman finished third in the 200-yard backstroke earninghim his first All America certificate. Halstead holds three of thefastest 10 times in school history in the 200 back, including theschool record.
