Biography
Senior (2005-06):
Burke, a senior, earned All-America honors for the fourthconsecutive season. This season he earned two All-Americacertificates and one All-America Honorable Mention honor. HisAll-America certificates were earned with his seventh place finishin the 200-yard backstroke and his eighth place finish in the200-yard individual medley. Burke earned three All-Conferencehonors this season including the title of Conference Champion intwo events. His Conference Champion titles were earned withhis first place finishes in the 200-yard backstroke and the400-yard individual medley
Junior (2004-05):
Burke, a junior, earned All-America honors for the thirdconsecutive year. This season he earned three All-Americacertificates--200-yard backstroke and the 200- and 400-yardindividual medleys. He finished third in the 200-back and seventhand eighth in the 400 and 200 IM, respectively. Burke's time in the400 IM at the University of Georgia Fall Invitational was thefastest on the team this season. Burke currently holds the fastesttwo times in school history for this event. Burke finished 11th outof 40 competitors on the team this season in points scored at dualand championship meets.
Sophomore (2003-04):
Burke, a sophomore, earned his third career All-Americacertificate by finishing eighth in the 200-yard backstroke at thenational championships. He earned All-America honorable mentionrecognition in the 400-yard individual medley. His time of 4:01.49in the 400 IM broke the school record. Burke was eighth on the teamout of 32 competitors in points scored in dual and championshipmeets. He was voted the team's Most Competitive Performer.
Freshman (2002-03):
The freshman earned two All-America certificates at the NCAAnational championships with a fourth-place finish in the 200-yardbackstroke, and an eighth-place finish in the 400-yard individualmedley. He also received honorable mention All-America recognitionin the 200-yard individual medley. Burke finished the season insixth place among the team's 32 competitors for most points earnedin dual and championship meets. His time of 4:01.61 in the 400-yardindividual medley was the fastest time of the season by an Emoryswimmer. He set a school record in the 400-yard individual medleyat 4:01.61 at the NCAA championships. Burke's time of 1:50.50 inthe 200-yard backstroke at the NCAA nationals is the fourth fastestin Emory history. He received two team awards for Most CompetitivePerformer and Rookie of the Year.
