Six Emory University student-athletes were named University Athletic Association Athletes of the Week for September 21-27 as announced by the conference office Monday afternoon.
Senior Kaitlyn Nimmer had a stat-stuffing week for the No. 9 ranked women's soccer team as the Eagles went 2-0-1 against Sewanee, Oglethorpe and Lynchburg. Across the three games, Nimmer tallied two goals and four assists to lead the Emory offense. She collected two assists in Tuesday's 3-3 draw with Sewanee before going for a season-high five points (2G, 1A) in the team's 5-0 win at Oglethorpe. She finished her week by assisting on the lone goal of the game on Sunday as the Eagles topped previously unbeaten Lynchburg in Charlotte. She also reached 100 career points on Friday to become the third player in Emory women's soccer history to achieve that milestone.
For women's tennis, sophomores Holyn Karp and Visnja Gusavac came away with hardware as the Eagles competed at the ITA South Regional in College Grove, Tennessee. In doubles, the Karp/Gusavac pairing became the latest Emory duo to win the regional title as they won four matches on their way to the crown and defeated teammates Sara Nenkov/Rachel Hernandez and Yanire Marte/Devin Gilory during the final two rounds of the regional. In singles, both players advanced to the semifinals with Karp eventually taking home the individual title. Karp five matches, four via straight sets, and had to get past three different teammates including Gusavac to win the tournament.
Senior Emma Lunn spotlighted the Eagles during swimming & diving's season opening meet at Georgia Tech on Saturday. Lunn was one of three event winners on the women's side, taking the top spot in the 200 Back at 2:07.10 and was Emory's top finisher in the 200 Free at 1:55.93 to place third overall.
Junior Maya Kriz paced the Emory women's divers on Saturday in Atlanta as she led the Eagles on both boards as she posted scores of 267.08 on the 1-meter and 241.05 on the 3-meter to finish fifth in both events.
Sophomore Carson Kalish led the Emory men's team on Saturday as he was Emory's top performer in both the 100 and 200 Fly events, turning in times of 49.80 and 1:52.37 to finish third in both races.
